Feel old? You will now: Britney Spears turned 30 yesterday. (Popwatch) I remember back in junior year of college when she burst onto the scene as Little Ms. Jailbait. And some dude in the school paper wrote an op-ed saying something to the extent of “Spears is making Lolita Complexes fashionable right now, but chill out. By the time she’s 25, she’ll be a really fat, divorced single mom.” (It wasn’t me- I swear!)
Damn, he nailed that one. The only part he didn’t prophesize was her second divorce and comeback/weight loss.
-The Erin Andrews peephole video saga is very far from over
According to Busted Coverage, EA:
filed a new lawsuit in Tennessee against the Nashville Marriott hotel where she was videotaped naked in 2008, accusing them of invasion of privacy, negligence and infliction of emotional stress.
Michael Barrett, the Illinois insurance executive who was sentenced to two and a half years for taping her, is also named in the suit. Andrews is seeking $7 million in damages — $3 million from Marriott and $4 million from Barrett.
-My alma mater is in a bowl game, and they’re partaking in……well I’ll let these two links just tell it like it is
(Dr. Saturday)
This is supposed to be about genuine human uplift: The game itself is a culmination of Kraft’s “Huddle to Fight Hunger” initiative, which aims to donate 25 million meals this year through Feeding America. And what worse way could there be to draw attention to the cause than by inviting Illinois and UCLA, two teams that combined to finish 12-13 and both just fired their head coaches? The Fighting Illini will arrive in San Francisco the losers of six straight after a 6-0 start, opposite a UCLA outfit that’s dropped three of its last four and needed special permission from the NCAA just to play in a bowl with a losing (6-7) record.
(SB Nation):
35. Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: Illinois vs. UCLA. Two headless teams fighting for a single dessicated green bean on the sad floor of a baseball stadium. Don’t watch this. You will literally die of sorrow.
-Did I mention my Illini met UCLA in a bowl game 20 years ago as well? The 1991 John Hancock Bowl won by UCLA 6-3. Yes it was as exciting as it sounds. And since we’re on the subject of suffering, the first sporting event I have any conscious recollection of was also a Bruins-Illini affair: the 1984 Rose Bowl. My eldest sister, then a freshman at Illinois attended the game- won by UCLA (QBd by just fired Coach Rick Neuheisel by the way) 45-9.
Why did the Illini get destroyed in that game? Urban legend has it..I’ll tell you offline.
-SNL didn’t wait too long to take on the Penn State and Syracuse Child molestation cases dominating the headlines.
(The Big Lead)
SNL writers took full advantage of the fact that Steve Buscemi looks like a guy who might touch a kid in their Penn State/Syracuse scandal parody. Not that the attorney in this sketch would have pressed charges anyway.
-The dream of SEC hackers was too good to be true. screenshot (kegs n eggs)
Although it was speculated that LSU’s official online merchandise store was hacked late last night, CNBC’s Darren Rovell has stated that this was indeed a “human error.”
-I actually gained a lot of respect for Northwestern Center Luka Mirkovic when he said he would rather watch MMA than college basketball. I don’t agree with him at all- I just like the fact that he speaks his mind when pretty much no one ever does when talking to the media.
(Chicago Sun-Times)
Mirkovic might be a rarity among college basketball players, preferring to watch mixed martial arts instead of basketball during his free time.
“I don’t really watch college basketball, so I really don’t know what their big guys are like,” Mirkovic said. “I don’t think its going to be that much different than what I go up against in the Big Ten.”
-Uhm then I saw him and his teammates “play” Baylor- and you know how that went. All that respect dissipated. I guess Mirkovic was about as interested in trying to score against/defend Baylor big men as he is in watching college hoops.
